Uk Market Grows as Inflation Drops
The latest 12 week sales growth and market share figures from TNS Worldpanel “the world’s leading provider of syndicated continuous research solutions, Worldpanel measures consumer grocery purchasing and consumption behaviour for brand owners”, for the period to the first week of October 2009 indicate market growth of 4.4% just after the recession period, consumers seems to starting warming up for the Christmas shopping boasted by the previous inflation falls.
Leading Waitrose, the brand new store space is definitely amusing new customers, has an 11.6% increase gross sales, however Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons also stayed ahead of the pace, with Asda 1.6% uplift from the previous period, Tesco drop 0.1% and Morrinsons 1.5% increase, while Tesco, though now tracking the market more closely trying to catch up with Asda still remains slightly below it.
